Week 1 learning activities

Getting an activity done in Week 1 is a bit of an ask, especially as some of you are taking this unit in your very first semester. For this reason, we like to give students a little bit of extra time to work through the first Play activity.

The sooner you can do them, the better! But you must do them by Sunday 13 March at the latest.

Your play activity this week has 4 compulsory and one optional component, here they are…

1. Register on the site and set up your IFN612 learning blog

This short video shows you how to register for the site and set up your learning blog.

You can step through the instructions in the video in this PDF –  How to register and create your learning blog on the IFN612 site

If you would like more information about creating posts, and editing you blog please visit the Help page.

**NOTE** There are some issues with emails coming from WordPress to QUT student email addresses. Kathleen will be logging into the site once a day and activating accounts so if you don’t get an email don’t worry! Your account will still be activated within 24 hours (1/3/16).

**IT FIX FOR EMAIL** IT Helpdesk are still working on a solution to the site emails coming straight to accounts but until then you need to do the following to add the unit site email address to your safe senders list:

  1. Log in to webmail
  2. Click on the settings cog
  3. Chose Options
  4. Click on Mail
  5. Click on Block or allow
  6. Type in the email address wordpress@2016.ifn612.info
  7. Clip the plus (+) sign
  8. Click the Save button at the top of the screen

2. Subscribe to the teaching team’s blog

In this unit we use the teaching team’s blog to post important information and reminders. You should subscribe to receive email updates for the blog so you don’t miss anything important. There is a link to subscribe on the home page of the site, or on the right hand side of the teaching team blog page.

3. Introduce yourself

Since we’ll be hanging out on the unit site, this is where we are going to do our introductions. Write a short post on your blog, or record a short video to post to your blog introducing yourself to your peers.

4. Tell us what you think about the Gartner predictions

Read  Gartner’s top 10 predictions for 2016 and tell us what you think about one thing in the report. It doesn’t have to be long or detailed, one sentence is fine.

5. OPTIONAL –  Follow us on Twitter

If you already have a Twitter account, you might like to follow us:

Don’t have a Twitter account? No problem! Watch this short video from Kate about the way Twitter works.

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows a fix if you registered without ticking yes to make a blog site?

    Thanks Caitlin
